Juergen Siepmann (born on February 5th 1969) studied pharmacy and did his Ph.D. at the Freie Universitaet Berlin, Berlin, Germany, supervised by Prof. R. Bodmeier. Since 2004, he is full Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Lille, Lille, France.

His awards include the "APV-Prize for the outstanding doctoral thesis in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the years 1998/99" and a Marie Curie Individual Fellowship (European Framework Programme). He was visiting scientist/postdoctoral fellow at Purdue University (Prof. N. Peppas), the University of Paris-Sud (Prof. G. Couarraze), the University of Iowa (Prof. P. Veng-Pedersen) and the University of Angers (Prof. J.P. Benoit).

His research focuses on controlled drug delivery systems, in particular on the elucidation of the underlying mass transport phenomena and the optimization of the devices (e.g. coated pellets, matrix tablets, biodegradable microparticles and lipid implants). Since 2006, Prof. Siepmann is head of the research group "JE 2491: Controlled Drug Delivery Systems: Mechanisms and Optimization".

So far, he published his work in more than 60 articles in peer-reviewed, international scientific journals, 150 poster presentations and 65 oral presentations at national and international scientific meetings. He is editor of 2 books, author of 14 book chapters and theme editor of issues of the "International Journal of Pharmaceutics" and "Advanced Drug Delivery Reviews". Prof. Siepmann is Review Editor of the "International Journal of Pharmaceutics" and member of the editorial boards of the "European Journal of Pharmaceutics and Biopharmaceutics", "European Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences", "Drug Development and Industrial Pharmacy", and the "Journal of Controlled Release". He is member of the EUFEPS (European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences) Committee for Training and Education, member of the APV (German Association for Pharmaceutical Technology) Committee for Education and Science, and vice-president of the APGI (French Association for Pharmaceutical Technology). Juergen Siepmann is chair of the APGI Coating Workshop in Lille in 2008, chair of the pre-satellite meeting of the PharmSciFair in Nice in 2009 and chair of the scientific programme committee of the 7th World Meeting on Pharmaceutics, Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology in Malta in 2010.
