Jyrki Heinämäki obtained his M.Sc. (Pharm.) in 1987 and Ph.D.(Pharm.) degree in 1991 at the University of Helsinki, Finland. His current position is Senior Lecturer (from 2002 to date) and Docent in Pharmaceutical Technology (since 1995) at the University of Helsinki. He has also served as a full-time Senior Researcher in National Agency of Medicines, Finland in 1994-95. Since 1995 Jyrki Heinämäki has been Scientific Advisor of National Agency of Medicines, Finland and the European Agency for the Evaluation of Medicinal Products (EMEA). He is also a vice-president of the Finnish Pharmaceutical Society.

Jyrki's main research interests include formulation and process research on oral solid dosage forms (i.e. powders, granules, pellets and tablets). His research activities are also focused very much on film coating of solid dosage forms and development of new coating materials for pharmaceuticals.
